Technology caused the problems—and helped clean them up

Technology misbehaved, which is apparently one of its hobbies—and then helped clean up the problems.

I decided the desktop needed a motherboard

My desktop failed after a series of problems. Because it was down, I described the earlier symptoms in chat and reasoned through the likely hardware causes, landing on the motherboard.

What I got out of it: Replacing the board improved the computer, though one problem remained. I still believe it was the right first repair.

Why AI was useful: It gave me an interactive way to weigh the symptoms when the computer could not run live diagnostics.

I found out why Bluetooth disappeared and came back

After Bluetooth stopped working, I tried the normal driver troubleshooting. AI then read the logs and found that the adapter had stalled, Windows unloaded it, and it later restarted.

What I got out of it: Bluetooth was back, I understood the temporary failure, and I knew no additional repair was necessary at that moment.

Why AI was useful: It read the event trail and explained why I could stop. It did not fix the issue with an Intel driver; the accessible records identify a Realtek adapter.

I chose the hard drive even though AI preferred RAM

One problem remained after the motherboard repair. AI ran diagnostics and read the logs, narrowing the choice to RAM or the hard drive and leaning slightly toward RAM. I reviewed the evidence and chose the drive.

What I got out of it: I replaced the hard drive, and the computer has worked ever since.

Why AI was useful: It accelerated the diagnostics and made the uncertainty clear. I kept the purchase decision and turned out to be right.

I spent less time shopping across Final Fantasy XIV worlds

I made a small form that pulled relevant market-board information, showed the ingredients and quantities I needed, and planned an efficient route through different worlds and servers.

What I got out of it: More economical shopping, less backtracking, and more time for the crafting I actually wanted to do.

Why AI was useful: It combined filtering, calculation, and route planning around my live shopping list instead of merely showing all the available market data.

I saved a computer.

I avoided some unnecessary hardware guesses.

I fixed one stubborn driver problem.

And I did less math for fun.

Technology caused several problems and, for once, technology also helped clean them up.
