How I Actually Use AI

Making my own work better before anyone else saw it

A lot of my AI use this time was creative, but the payoff was still pretty practical.

I compared new DFO work with eight earlier files

I gave AI eight earlier Dear Future Overlords files and asked it to compare new work using the same quality review as before.

What I got out of it: A second opinion that separated creative quality from packaging, cold-click appeal, and performance data that was still too immature to interpret confidently.

Why AI was useful: It could compare the old and new material directly instead of relying on my memory or attachment to the newest work.

I found what the Hands On AI Lab site explained only to me

People said the site was lovely and well made but did not always understand what I offered or why they should care. I used AI to inspect the language from perspectives outside my own.

What I got out of it: Clearer site language that explained the offer and its reason for existing to a broader group of people.

Why AI was useful: It helped expose the context I carried in my head but had not put on the page.

I built a workflow to keep DFO artwork consistent

I put the DFO visual references, guardrails, shortcuts, and common image failures into one ChatGPT Work workflow. It generates an image, checks for familiar problems, attempts corrections, and then brings the result to me.

What I got out of it: More attention for backgrounds, poses, expressions, and art direction instead of repeatedly correcting basic drift.

Why AI was useful: The reusable context and self-check carry the visual standard from one image to the next. I still direct and approve the result.

I made AI check its own AI-sounding prose

I built a voice document pairing AI-generated phrases with how I would actually say the same things. My writing workflow now checks its first draft against that reference before returning it to me.

What I got out of it: A draft that starts much closer to my voice, so my editing time goes toward meaning and perspective instead of removing generic phrasing line by line.

Why AI was useful: The second AI pass critiques the first against examples I supplied. It does not replace my edit or approval.

I checked my own assumptions.

I cleaned up my writing.

I kept the visuals tighter.

And I threw away more bad first drafts.

Mostly, I used AI to make my own work better before anyone else had to see it.
